Alan Deacon is a successful Chagford artist and architect and we are incredibly pleased he is our current artist at The Chagford Inn.
Alan grew up in Plymouth and moved away from Devon, to study at Brighton University, when he was 25.
He is now a retired architect who started drawing and painting about 15 years ago. He joined a local group in Brighton and gained some idea of materials and technique.
Since then he has been in general ‘free fall’ and paints because he enjoys it – no more, no less!
He has often exhibited in the Artists’ Open Studios during The Brighton Festival.
Most pictures are inspired by an event or a view, often turning out quite differently from what was expected!
Dartmoor and Chagford are a constant source of ideas and inspiration.
Materials used, are often acrylic, ink or paint, with the addition of pastel when the picture needs more life and highlight.
The pictures displayed at The Chagford Inn have mostly been painted over the last year or two. Alan would be delighted to respond to commissions on a ‘if you don’t like it you need not have it’ basis. Do ask! Alan can be contacted at deacs48@gmail.com
Alan will be hosting a private view on Thursday 16th February between 6:00 – 7:30pm. This will also include a free glass of Prosecco and more importantly, you will be able to discuss with Alan about his paintings and influences.
Whilst we do not charge for exhibitions, we do ask that 10% of any sales go direct to the Chagford Education & Leisure Trust that rents premises to The Mess, a local organisation that we are very keen to support, so it’s great news for all concerned!
