Four times a year we welcome a new artist to stage an exhibition of their work on the walls of the Chagford Inn. We do not charge for the exhibition, but we ask that 10% of any sales go direct to the Chagford Education & Leisure Trust that rents premises to The Mess, Chagford’s local youth centre, which we are very keen to support. As you sup your drink, or enjoy your meal, we hope you will enjoy the changing paintings on our walls!

Donald Arlett studied painting at Croydon and Norwich Art Schools. He worked as an art director in London, Vienna and New York and gained many awards for his work both in this country and abroad.
He exhibited in East Anglia, where he was based for many years and one man shows in London.

He now spends most of his time painting locally, having recently established his studio in Chagford.
These linocuts are a nostalgic trip back to the time when I did lithography, etching and woodcuts at art school.
I enjoy the physical aspects of the process of cutting the lino to form an image and experimenting with different techniques with press and inks.
The break from painting is beneficial as it is influential in adding another dimension to my paining.
The linocuts of dogs are inspired by the woodcuts created by William Nicholson in the late 19th century.
